A hike at Newport State Park- Door County, Wisconsin

Lady's slipper orchid found at Newport State Park

Last week we finally made our first trip of the year up to our family's cottage in Door County, Wisconsin. All six of us were able to cram into Josh & Jill's volvo station wagon, and we had quite a relaxing few days up north. We didn't do a whole lot while we were up there due to rain and the cozy nature of the cottage itself which convinces you to stay inside and keep the fire roaring, but we did manage to take a morning hike at Newport State Park. Newport is our favorite place for hiking while we're in Northern Door since it seems to be the least busy and the trails there are always beautiful. Eric and Jill had their eyes out for wildflowers, which were in abundance. They identified a few new ones, and we were all exciting to find so many of the gorgeous lady slipper orchids in full bloom. Hopefully next time we're up the thimbleberries will be ripe and ready for the picking!
