Eat for Equity- Aldo Leopold Center- Wisconsin
Recently I was given another chance to shoot an Eat for Equity dinner- this time at the Aldo Leopold Center in Monona, Wisconsin. These dinners are such a labor of love, done with the help and talent of people in the community who are willing to donate their time, effort, and talents into putting on an amazing dinner in order to raise money for local organizations. This month's dinner took place at the Aldo Leopold Nature Center, and the proceeds from it went to the center's Summer Camp Fund for Disadvantaged Youth and the Campfire Fund For Homeless Youth, funds that subsidizes or cover the cost of attending nature education programs. The dinner entailed four courses, each one involving honey in some way, as this month's theme was "Land of Milk and Honey". The volunteers start prepping things sometimes starting days before the event, and every course is absolutely delicious. So glad to have been able to capture a bit of this dinner. If you ever get a chance to buy a ticket to one of the Eat for Equity dinners, don't hesitate. Keep up with their Facebook to see when the next dinner will be!
"There are two spiritual dangers in not owning a farm. One is the danger of supposing that breakfast comes from the grocery, and the other that heat comes from the furnace. To avoid the first danger, one should plant a garden, preferably where there is no grocer to confuse the issue. To avoid the second, he should lay a split of good oak on the andirons, preferably where there is no furnace, and let it warm his shins while a February blizzard tosses the trees outside. If one has cut, split, hauled, and piled his own good oak, and let his mind work the while, he will remember much about where the heat comes from, and with a wealth of detail denied to those who spend the week end in town astride a radiator." -Aldo Leopold, from A Sand County Almanac
